Cardinal Egan meets with the young
men at Our Lady Chapel at
Saint Patrick's Cathedral

What is Cathedral Prep Seminary?  Well for one thing, it is not a high school, although it used to be. In fact, for many years, Cathedral Preparatory Seminary High School instructed and prepared hundreds of men to enter into the next stage of their development as seminarians preparing to become priests. And while many men became priests and have served in the Archdiocese of New York their entire lives, many others decided on other vocations such as marriage, parenthood and the single state. Today, hundreds of alumni recall their days at the old Cathedral Prep as exciting days of challenge and encouragement to be men of good character and more importantly, men of God in whatever vocation they eventually followed.

The new Cathedral Prep Seminary, while not a high school, reaches out to any Catholic young man of high school age in the Archdiocese of New York and invites him to consider the beautiful vocation to the priesthood. In accepting this invitation and joining the Cathedral Prep program, such a young man will carry on the timeless traditions of the Prep in preparing to be a man of God.

Still interested?  Wonderful!  More than anyone else in the world, God wants us to be happy!  And for young men, perhaps just like you, God may be showing you the best way to grow in happiness, the priesthood of Jesus Christ!  The Cathedral Preparatory Seminary High School Formation Program is for young men in their high school years who wish to explore the possibilities of the priesthood.  The central office of Cathedral Prep is located at St. Joseph's Seminary.  The Dean of Cathedral Prep, Father Thomas A. Lynch, coordinates all of the activities of the Prep that take place in the Archdiocese of New York.

PERSONAL TESTIMONIES FROM STUDENTS OF THE PREP

Daniel
My name is Daniel and I am fifteen years old. I am a sophomore in high
school. This is my second year in the Prep program. If you are seriously
considering the religious life I strongly recommend this program. Ever
since I joined the Prep program, I really have felt my relationship with the
Lord has grown. One of the highlights in this program is praying and being
able to spend an hour with the Lord in what we call a holy hour. That is
truly my favorite part of the weekend. I also find the recreation time to
be my favorite after spending time with the Lord it is always good after
your done to get some energy out of your system and you can bowl, swim, play
basketball and many other things. If you find all these things applying to
you, this program might be for you.

Sean
I am a senior in Stepinac High School. I have been part of this program for
four years. If you are thinking of being a priest, you should come to one
of the retreats. It is my belief that the retreats will increase your faith
in Christ and God.

Matt
I am Matt at age 15 and a sophomore. This is my second year in Cathedral
Prep. Since I came here I was able to understand many questions I need to
ask about the priesthood. On the retreats we have a lot of fun but we are
also very serious about prayer. What I like best on the retreats is the
time we spend together while playing games during recreation time. I hope
you think about joining but don‚t rush yourself into this, think it over.

Anthony
To whom it may concern: Concerning Cathedral Prep Seminary experiences.
I think that there is a lot of time for fun including gym and movies and the rooms are
good but we have much prayer time, benediction and prayers.

Henry
Hello my name is Henry and I am attending my second year in Cathedral Prep.
I am considering to continue so far. Along with this, I am attending high
school. I feel the Cathedral Prep program is good and that more people
should know about it. My most enjoyable part of the retreats is the prayers
along with the exciting discussions. The gym is also very fun.
